PWN1EZ!!
we took the girls down to The Red Mile to see the horses warming up for the evening races (no minors after post time), they waved at the carriage guys and sometimes the guys waved back to them. we also walked over to the stables to see some horses close up, one of the stable guys even let the girls pet one of the gentler mares. of course, zella wanted to pet the feisty one at the end of the stalls. feisty mare was feisty, in the time we were there she reared up a few times, rolled in the hay, and did everything she could to get our attention (even smiling at us.. that’s entertainment). Red Mile is a whole different experience from Keeneland. i think if we had Just Shown Up at Keeneland we would have been escorted out by security within 5 minutes. at Red Mile the security was asking the girls if they had fun watching the horses. i suppose the main difference between the two is that since Red Mile racing isn’t really considered Real Horse Racing (it’s carriage drawn rather than jockey-riding) then the only people that would show up to the venue would be locals and horse people. it’s much more relaxed.
the girls wanted to know if after the horses went around the track they went in to be decorated with flowers and ribbons (as is their understanding from the abomination of a game they have called Disney Princess Horse Show).. and after being in close contact with one i think they got a good idea of the size difference, zella was actually nervous about petting them.. after all that tak about Ponies This and Ponies That.
