I thought it was kinda corny at first, but the more I think of it, the better it sounds. I heard it on All Things Considered (NPR) in the car yesterday while we were out taking care of business:
Rosa sat so Martin could walk,
Martin walked so Obama could run,
Obama runs so our children can fly.
I got my Obama button from moveon.org in the mail today. I put it on my hoodie and went about my business, had to drop somthing off at Mail Boxes Etc (or whatever it’s called now) and some old guy called me, in front of my children, a Nigger Lover.
Stunned silent, I just ignored him in hopes of not making an ordeal about it in front of my kids and having them pick up such nastiness.
What the hell? Last I checked that was all settled in the 60’s. Racism is SO last century, and if there was any shred of acceptance of white supremacy I’d say that electing Bush for a second term pretty much put the nail in the coffin. I will say this though: if you’re voting based on prejudices rather than reason, don’t bother. I’ve been living in that world for the last 8 years and I’m quite sick of it, why not move up to Alaska and join the AIP? Once you all are up there we’ll go ahead and let you secede and you can have the United Nation of Whitey, or whatever.
Jesus H. Christ, am I tired. It all started yesterday with me finding a butter churn at a flea market. I have been looking for a churn for a year now, and I’d pretty much given up on it so I nearly passed it by. Today I went all over my side of town looking for some non-ultra-pasteurized cream, found some and went home. Sterilized the churn and let the cream sit until it reached room temperature. While I waited on the cream I used some of the abundance of apples we have this year from our neighbor to make an apple pie. Got the pie in the oven and started the bread machine and the butter churn… cleaned up the kitchen while I waited (which entailed re-washing stuff out of the dishwasher since it decided to leave a film on my dishes… then washed the butter, pressed it and put 2/3 of it in the freezer, 1/3 for dinner. OSHIT dinner! So then I had to get that going and by some small miracle it was all done at exactly the same time.
The butter’s not half bad, needs more salt, though. I’ll probably experiment with culturing future cream so that I don’t have to cross Hell’s Half Acre just to get 2 pints of the right kind of cream. Another idea is to buy a share in a local dairy farm, but that’s not something I can get into at the moment.
I also picked up another clock at the flea market, a Sessions. It’s been keeping perfect time, all it needed was a winding. I tak that back, it’s slipping by a few minutes today, but that could most-likely be because it’s considerably colder and rainy today.
